Tennis is one of the most popular sports to bet on, and there are a number of reasons for that. One being that there are so many tournaments and matches to choose from, but also because there are a number of markets available to profit from.

Over the last 20 years or so, the sport has increased in popularity in Brazil, helped no end by the emergence and sustained ability at the top level by former French Open champion Gustavo Kuerten, to the modern-day where the flag is still being flown by the likes of Thiago Montero. We are also in the greatest era the sport has ever seen, with Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic regularly battling it out.

Betting on tennis

Such is the appeal and entertainment that tennis provides, it is the perfect sport to bet on. Another reason why tennis betting is so popular is that most bookmakers offer up the opportunity to watch the match you invest in on their live streaming console, meaning you don’t need cable TV or to subscribe to any fancy channels to be able to watch a match.

Online tennis betting

Depending on the size of the tournament, or the level it is being played at, there are a variety of markets to bet on. That is the case for all Grand Slam events, ATP tournaments and WTA matches as well. Here is our guide to the most regular and popular ones.

Match Betting

This is the traditional form of betting on the sport. You are simply betting on the player you think will win the match and if that person does, you will win your bet. Be careful when betting though, because some firms have different rules on matches won by retirement – when a player retires from a game through injury. Most firms need the match to be completed, although some consider it completed if one set is played.

Correct Score

Another popular market when it comes to tennis betting is the correct score market. This is another simple bet to work out. You are betting on what you think the score will be in a match. If a match isn’t completed because a player retires, the bet will be void.

Total Games in the Match

In the big matches, there will be a market for the total number of games in the match. You will be presented with a target figure and then you will bet on the over or under depending on what you think. Often this is a market that is punted on more in one-sided matches.

Match Handicap

Along with the match betting market, the most popular form of tennis betting takes place on the handicap markets. All too often these days, players who are emphatic favourites are offered at restrictive odds, but if you think they can win easily, you can back them on a handicap, to cover a specified number of games, or alternatively you can back the outsider with a set number of games. This is probably the best market to bet on.
